Angela,
Did the sales rep leave any type of business card with any contact information on it? Please advise so we may locate information on the company and perhaps you can contact them to verify if he is one of their representatives.

Nope - he left nothing and he refused to leave anything. He had a checklist he wanted me to respond to and I didn't do it. He started asking me questions about how many cars are in the driveway when everyone is home and I told him he should come back another time to discuss the product with my husband. The whole thing just felt really fishy. He did have a nametag but unfortunately, the name didn't stick in my head. I think it was Matt, FYI. Thanks for the reply.

I own an alarm company and my father was one of the founding members of the Los Angeles Burglar and Fire Alarm Association in the 60's.
GE is a competitor of Honeywell in our industry! Both companies are manufacturers not installing companies. Did he have a sign on him? What alarm company would send an employee out to perform marketing and not give him marketing material to leave behind for a potential client showing interest?
Why would an alarm company want to know how many cars are in your driveway at any given time?
It is a scam!
Our unspoken motto is, "call us now, or call us later!". Get an alarm system from your local alarm company, not a nationwide chain. Get references. Ask your neighbors, friends and relatives who they use, for how long and what they like most about the company they patronized.
All alarm companies are required in the State of California to be licensed with the contractors state license board. All employees are required to be licensed with the department of consumer affairs. Even a sales associate is required by law to carry his registration card on him.
Check a Company License and employee's status here... http://www.alarm.pro/employees.cfm
Hope This Helps.

I just had a guy knock at my door around 8:15pm claiming to be from GE. He mentioned how my street and the street over has had some break ins recently His quota was four houses and he kept saying if I would agree to let him leave a sign on the lawn and what not, that he'd be able to finally go home since he already got three houses to participate. He said the installation would be free I was suspicious so I told him I wasn't interested.
Forgot to mention that I'm in the El Monte, CA area.
