It's free already. Call Experian directly and have them put the correct type of holds and notifications on your credit profile. Why go through another party for what the direct organization already does for you based upon Federal law? It just seems convoluted to me.

Many banks also offer 1 free year of credit reporting services, so scrutinize the fine print on the offer for Experian Credit Reporting. Sometimes it is really a free trial and then after the trial period, your credit card will be automatically charged. Make sure you do not have to provide any credit card information upfront for this service.

Experian is one of the 3 major credit bureaus. The company that had a breach in security is offering you free credit monitoring to reduce potential lawsuits. You should definitely take them up on their offer because you will be alerted if any fraudulent activity appears on your credit report. If you notice any fraud, you should quickly place a fraud alert on your credit reports. Here is an article that teaches you how to do it: http://www.expert-credit-advice.com/identity_theft.htm
Hope the info helps. Good Luck!
