Within a week of getting this insurance, a bedroom CEILING FAN stopped working. We called FIRST AM and a woman accepted the claim. She did not state there were any limitations or exclusions. Then, a technician called to set up an appointment. When the technician took apart the fan assembly, he immediately said it was the RECEIVER. He alled his supervisor and said First Am would not repair or replace the fan.
We were very unhappy as we had used the company for several years before without ever makuing a claim. Now, the first time we submit a claim they play the game of no coverage, thinking everyone is stupid and will just move on with their life. Hence, we wrote to cancel the coverage within the first 30 days.
First Am told us "the policy excluded the RECEIVER," but could not identiy any place where the word "receiver" was mentioned as an excluded part.
When I looked at the contract the only exclusion for a ceiling fans is the remote control device identified as a "transmitter."
First American only gave a pro-rated refund (charging an excessive amount for the one week we had the policy and made the claim. They had the audacity to want us to also pay the $60 service charge, even though the technician wrote knew it was unfair and entered on the work order zero (-0-).
We believe FirstAm acted in bad faith after they collected their premium.
It is shameful how they treat unsuspecting customers.
