Reported "discrepancy" when there was none.

My new employer used HireRight to verify my BA and PhD. HireRight could only verify my BA through a third party (NCSH) since I only completed my PhD two weeks before HireRight performed my background check. Moreover, HireRight obtained the incorrect dates of attendance of my schools from NCSH. After going back and forth with HireRight, and sending them my transcripts and proof that I submitted my dissertation, HireRight completed my background check, stating a "discrepancy" in my degree type, degree date, and dates of attendance (even though I had already submitted transcripts to them).
I called HireRight, and they put in a dispute for me to change my dates of attendance. However, they refused to remove the "discrepancy" in my degree date/type stating they could not verify my PhD through my university (my university does not update records until 10 weeks after the degree conferral date).
I find the use of the term "discrepancy" to be misleading and an inaccurate description of their screening. A discrepancy is a "A lack of compatibility or similarity between two or more facts". According to HireRight's transcript of my screening, there is no verification with my university about whether or not I received my PhD. Thus, there is no "second fact" that HireRight is comparing the NCSH information to. Hopefully, HireRight will take note of situations like this and in the future, categorize these situations as the more appropriate "could not verify".
Overall, I found HireRight to be extremely disorganized and very difficult to reach. In their transcript of my screening, they contacted my university during hours in which the offices were not open. Moreover, the contact number they listed in their email only had menu options for companies using HireRight and not the potential employees of these companies. I had to dig around and try quite a few times before I was able to reach someone to speak to.
