Review 11/15/2010
On Friday, November 12th, at the request of the mortgage company, I went to the property to check to see if it was occupied. This happens once a property has been foreclosed on and one of the first steps to preparing the property for sale. The occupant was the 60+ "previous homeowner" and he told me how he had been working with a company-National Relief Group-on getting a Home Loan Modification. He had sent them $3,000 to workout a plan with his mortgage company. After talking with him, I did some Internet Research and none of the information was good. I have advised him to get in touch with an attorney but I think it is too late to save his home (it usually is when I show up). THE PROBLEM, he has referred this company to friends who have also sent money to try to save their homes. They do not know that this type of assistance is FREE and they need to be working with a reputable HUD approved housing counseling agency. I am contacting Neighborworks to see if I can locate a housing counselor to assist his friends save their homes but they are on their own as far as getting their money back from NRG. This company is located in California and it looks like California has taken steps to protect its citizens but consumers in the rest of the country are still being taken advantage of. They soon learn it is hard to work across state lines and this company sound smart enough to take advantage of that. PLEASE BEWARE
