RealtyTrac.com is misrepresenting their business before collecting and selling users' personal information with little recourse to opt out of their system. I am looking for a new home and was browsing the Trulia.com website. I wanted more information about a foreclosure property listing and was redirected to a RealtyTrac.com registration page. There was no mention that RealtyTrac is a pay-only service that also makes money selling personal information to Realtors. After submitting my information and then being asked for my credit card information, I immediately left the RealtyTrac site, as my only options were to start a "free" 7-day trial or sign up for their paid services, and both options required my credit card information. I never was given the foreclosure listing that was promised upon registration (not paid subscription or "free" trial requiring credit card) with RealtyTrac. Even though I chose not to continue, RealtyTrac still sold my information to at least one Realtor who then sent me an unwanted email solicitation. If RealtyTrac represented their business honestly, many users like myself would choose not to submit their information to begin with. There is no easy opt-out method once you've submitted your personal information and only then discover these important details. You can unsubscribe, but that takes up to 10 days and may not prevent RealtyTrac from still selling your personal information to third parties.
RealtyTrac has an A+ BBB rating but only a 1-star TrustLink rating. That doesn't reflect well on the BBB's rating system.
