Unfortunately, Clear Oak Designs is more in the business of extortion, than home remodel. Construction of our bathroom addition was completed in August of 2005. We made prompt payments per our contract throughout the proccess, and for the Final invoice in August of 2005. In June of 2006 Clear Oak sent an additional invoice for approximately $11,000 - 10 months after the work was completed! The invoice contained several change orders that were dated in February, 2006. We had never seen the change orders and they contained their signature but not ours. They did not return any of our calls or respond to our written dispute of the invoice. Clear Oak then proceeded to place a mechanics lien on our property in September of 2007. We have learned that this is a common scare tactict of many unethical contractors to try and extort additional money from honest customers. The lien was not recorded within the required timeframe of 90 days of completion of work and was thus completely invalid. In January of 2008 we sent a certified letter demanding the lien be removed. We received no response from Clear Oak. We have since hired an attorney and have had the lien legally removed, and have a judgement against Celar Oak for the attorney costs.
Our recommendation - stay away from this unethical company!!
