Anyone know how to or what to do to report a company signing you up for other offers online. I have a company saying i signed up for their monthly plan they already took the fee out of my account and i have been trying to tell them i did not sign up for the monthly plan and they said they will not refund my money because it clearly states that in the terms in conditions (which i have in front of me and it does not state that) that its a fee that i have to cancel. So tonight when i called to cancel they said they will not refund my money. i didnt recieve the product. And they have said to go to the ups website and check on my order which was sent out two months ago supposivly..i dont know what to do i canceled my debit card but i dont want to have to pay this over drawn balance i didnt make any purchases...and the bank also said that other companys have been trying to get money out of my account (healht companys) and they think its this one company giving the other companys my card number what do i do about that im so confuse as you probably can tell...Thank you

Cassamdra,

Unfortunately you may have learned the hard way about the fraud associated with "demand drafts" and automatic electronic withdrawals. Follow your bank's procedures for disputing unauthorized electronic funds transfers. Perhaps invoke the concern that you are a victim of identity theft (in writing) - and even submit a report to the police in order to qualify for the legal protections of ID theft victims (they have to act on this). I would also close the account if you have not already done so.

In the future, never give access to anyone, not even your grandmother, for automatic debit from your bank account or credit card, in my opinion. I know that legitimate businesses like gyms, etc will make you think you have to do this, but pay for these ongoing "future services" with a lump sum payment by check if possible.

The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse has good info on what to do. Read the PRC's paper on "Dump Your Debit Card!" - see link below. The whole thing is interesting but you may want to just scroll down to the end of this document to see the part about "Demand Drafts".

Cassandra,

The companies that are drafting your account are not legitimate firms. It's useless to try to reason with these people and since you seem to have multiple iterations of the same firm trying to draft your account, maybe the best thing to do is to close the problem account and open a new one. Also, talk to your banker and tell them you don't want anyone drafting your account.
