Has Anyone had their Air Ducts Cleaned Profesionally?

Has anyone ever had their air ducts cleaned in their home? I don't know a single person who has used this type of service. I heard it is expensive; is it worth it? My house was sitting vacant for 2 years before I purchased it this past July. I look down the vents and they look dirty. I am afraid to turn the heater on because I can just picture all this dust flying in every nook and cranny in the house.

I actually had my air ducts cleaned last year for the first time. I just bought a 1978 Mobile Home to live in after my divorce and while it was in good shape, I didn't know if they had ever been done. I had the place professionally cleaned for me to move right in and then I realized it was time to shut down the swamp cooler and start using the heat. Well, the thought that whatever was in the ducts was going to come out all over my sparkling clean house kind of horrified me. I believe I used Steamatic. They, as well as most of the others, charge around 10 dollars per duct. I had nine or ten. They were very nice, they didn't dirty up my house, and when they were done they showed me all the yucky stuff that was in my vents (it lands in a large clear container). It was very satisfying to see that all that stuff was not going to be coming out of me vents and that I had not wasted my money at all. I was very satisfied, and I would recommend doing it. Thank you for your response, Dianne, I appreciate it. I did use the "Request a Quote" to 2 "A" rated companies from the BBB site last week but I haven't received any responses yet...

Be careful of excessive claims by companies in the heating/air industry. Maybe you can get a free consutaltion - use our "Request a Quote" feature (see link at bottom left on this page).

Don't freeze to death in the meantime!
