I will admidt I've never dealt with American Tax directly, there are several other companies which do the same thing. They tend to lure clients in promising results but yet it costs you large fees and the promised results either never come or take a long time to get. ANY of these commercials promising you settlements for pennies on the dollar are NOT TYPICAL. I work in this field currently running a business doing this type of work and have 11 yrs experience working for the IRS. IT is very rare to get an offer thru at less then 50% of the total liability. Hopefully this helps you out in your decision. I would be careful and ask upfront what fees will be charged and what resolutions are available to you, then go from there before committing yourself. Also try to get them to put your case strategy in writting before signing a contract.

Willie, You would be well served to review the BBB Reliability Report at http://www.labbb.org/BusinessReport.aspx?CompanyID=13105757. The company has an 'F' rating and their customers generally allege that the company did not provide the promised tax relief.

You may contact the IRS directly about an Offer in Compromise which they will give under specific circumstances. For more information visit http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=104593,00.html
