I learned the hard way last season during a local tournament. I trained like I was preparing for a five-day Test match but ended up playing a T20 game first. All that endurance training left me slow off the mark, and my explosive shots just weren’t there. I realized too late that T20s need short bursts of power, sprints, and reaction drills, not long stamina runs. That game taught me to tailor my prep depending on the format.

I’ve struggled with that as well. Early in my career, I mixed all my training together, thinking it would cover both Tests and T20s. Big mistake. Now I do sprinting, agility, and power-based sessions leading up to T20s, while for Tests, I focus more on long net sessions, endurance runs, and mental focus drills. This is what I use: https://assamtribune.com/article/how-to-train-like-a-pro-cricketer-fitness-diet-and-drills-1587645 . It’s helped me structure my training without burning out or losing form for either format.
