Does anyone know if the Institute of Reading Development is legitimate? I have found many negative comments online calling this company a scam. However, I find it difficult to believe that reputable colleges would partner with them to offer their summer reading programs.

I just enrolled my child a few days ago but now I'm wondering if I should cancel.

We have several companies by this name in our national database. What is the location of the one you are using?

Cancel it asap. This program offers one session per week. A child should be reading, writing every day for 15 - 30 minutes. Save your $ and time. Also, call the colleges that they advertise and check if they are partnering with them.

Both of my kids have taken many courses from the Institute of Reading Development based out of Novato CA. I strongly recommend them. They may seem expensive at $300+ for a 6 week course but my kids improved greatly. My oldest was in title one reading in first and second grade. He started his first course after second and was able to move out of title one. He continued every summer. Now in seventh grade he is reading at the high school level and is taking all AP courses. My fourth grader is excelling as well being labeled as gifted. I thank the Institute of reading for their success. If a child can learn to read at an early age they will be far more successful in all of the subjects including math.
