Lisa W., before you pay a bunch of money to return a company about your mortgage, please give me a call. Many times the application of payments to your account can be resolved by analyzing any escrow account issues or mishandling by why of an audit of our payment history. But to withhold any payment to your lender during this process will not force their hand but push your case into default (breach of mortgage contract agreement) which, if not cured, will move your case into foreclosure proceedings and as you incur late payments will reduce your FICO score as well - especially if the withholding of your payments were intentional.
