Earlier today I realized I’d checked my notifications at least ten times in an hour, even though nothing important was happening. It made me think of how casinos keep people engaged with constant little signals, even when nothing big is going on. Once I even caught myself refreshing for no reason at all. Does anyone else have that habit? What helped you slow it down?

That’s super familiar to me. There was a time when I felt like a tiny vibration from my phone could pull me right out of anything I was doing, and it’s wild how similar that is to what’s described at https://nichegamer.com/the-dopamine-economy-casinos-vs-social-media/ about how we get conditioned by small, frequent rewards. I eventually turned off vibration notifications completely and put most apps on silent. It felt weird at first, but after a week or two I stopped constantly reaching for my phone, and life got noticeably calmer.
