For infants and toddlers, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends using a rear-facing car seat for as long as possible. This means that the child should remain in a rear-facing car seat until they outgrow the weight and height limits of the car seat. You can usually find the weight and height limits listed on the side or bottom of the car seat.
