I’ve never done this myself, but I know for sure that there are a lot of potholes to watch out for when creating your website. Lauren, I would first recommend that you do a lot of research on the internet to learn about your options, what’s available and what to watch out for.
There are website builder services such as Weebly, Intuit, Godaddy and Yahoo and there are inexpensive website “templates” you can buy. Make sure you use a service that lets you use a domain name that is unique to you and that YOU own, in case you need to leave the service in the future. This also helps with search engine optimization.
Good luck!

I do websites ..there are a few places that you can build them for free first and if you like the way it looks and you don't want ads, you can buy a monthly subscription usually like $4. a month..
try these
http://www.webs.com -- very user friendly
http://www.weebly.com -- very user friendly drag and drop
http://www.wix.com -- a little more advanced but easy, lets you do flash websites
the best thing is that webs and weebly take paypal.. wix takes CC..and I never had issues with either one of them..
hope that helps.
