Anyone know the procedure me and my fiance put a down payment on a engagement ring with a jeweler we never took the ring it was on layaway well we wanted are money back and the jewleler wont give us all of the money back he wants to give us store credit and some cash i only signed one reciept that said 30 days no refund exchange only can he do that is it legal please help.

Eric,

If your signed receipt specifies that the down-payment you gave is non-refundable, then those would be terms that you are both bound by. This is a way for the jeweler to cover it's losses should you decide not to complete the purchase for a ring they began creating or customizing for you.

Without seeing the actual receipt and knowing the specific details of the incident, it's hard to give an exact answer. You may want to contact your local BBB and discuss it with someone there who may be able to offer you further guidance.
