Geocell and geogrid both support ground stabilisation, but their structures and functions differ. Geocell is a three-dimensional cellular system that expands into a honeycomb-like arrangement and confines infill material within individual cells. Geogrid is generally a planar grid with open spaces that interacts with soil or aggregate to provide reinforcement. Geocell is often selected for applications requiring lateral confinement, surface support, or slope protection. Geogrid is commonly used for reinforcing road bases, retaining structures, and soil masses, depending on its design. Neither product is automatically better in every situation. Selection depends on the project's engineering requirements, soil characteristics, loads, drainage, and installation conditions. In some projects, both systems may be used together.
