Geocomposites help drainage systems by collecting and transporting excess water away from soil or structural surfaces. A typical drainage geocomposite contains a drainage core covered with geotextile filter layers. The filter allows water to enter while restricting soil particles from clogging the drainage core. Water then moves through the core toward a suitable outlet. This arrangement is useful behind retaining walls, beneath roads, around foundations, and in landfill drainage systems. Effective drainage reduces hydrostatic pressure, limits water accumulation, and may improve soil stability. However, drainage capacity must be sufficient under expected soil pressure and long-term operating conditions. Correct installation and outlet design are essential for reliable performance.
