Has anyone EVER found out how to get RID of a timeshare?? We wasted $650 with a sales company that after one year couldn't ever find anyone at the phone number to talk with about "What's Happen?". I decided to use my time and track them, and that is just what I had to do. They moved, changed names and phone numbers, went out of business, then started a new one, from Daytona, through Orlando down the state. Did find people to talk with about them but not much usable info, just gossip-type. Checked with a Title Company to find out the cost to transfer title in case someone might be legitimate. No, - it looks like it needs to be an attorney. Don't advertise it anywhere or you will be inandated with calls from realtors and other scammers. I even called the Florida Attorney General's office, and they said they couldn't help - get an attorney. Could we all join together and try to get this resolved before we have another storm and have a hefty assessment from our resorts. We are with RCI and they can't help either. We even listed with the attorney/realtor for our resort and never got a phone call from him - we just let it expire. Altho I did ask him if we could just "give it back" since we own it outright.

Shirley,

Finding legit timeshare resale companies is like walking through a minefield. The vast majority of these companies do nothing other than list your timeshare on their website. Many though, will con you into thinking that they've got a buyer in the wings, and that you should pay money for a title search or some other nonsense in order to seal the deal. All of these are outright scams.

As you're doubtlessly aware, there is virtually no secondary market for timeshares. There are though, tons of timeshare owners looking to unload these units.

There are a few firms that will purchase timeshares legitimately, going through all the necessary approval processes from the timeshare company. The advantage of this is that you get out from under the continuing liability for common area charges but the companies require that you pay them. One such company is Timeshare Relief. Here's their BBB report: http://www.la.bbb.org/Business-Report/Timeshare-Relief-Inc-100008554

Thanks to everyone who has answered our cry for help. We have made many phone calls, including the previous Realtor we were listed with. After talking with him my husband reduced the price to $1950 and resigned the contract to sell. This amount will cover the closing costs and the fees we already paid this year to our time share. We want to avoid being responsible for repairs in case we have a catastrophic hurricane this year. We enjoyed it while we used it, but then, changes in life like daughter marring and moving away and then wanting to see our granddaughter but never being able to match up our trade time to their area and their time off. It was nice while it lasted.
