Refunding of security deposit
|
1/29/2011 9:45 PM (PST)
Recently, my family moved out of an apartment owned by J.K. Residential. The main problem that we have right now is the overcharging of the cleanup costs for the apartment. Our security deposit was $1,200, and we were charged $550 for cleaning fees. Now, this is only a 1 bedroom apartment, so we felt that this cant be the true cost. In addition, the company refuses to pay back the $25x2= $50 deposit for the two garage keys that we used. We have called many times with no response from the supervisors. What can I do to get this problem resolved? Also, if I need to file a small claims court, what are the necessary documents needed to get our money back?

Unfortunately Bill M is right, you don't have many options.Sue them in small claims and let the judge decide what is reasonable. I can tell you this much, I moved out of a 2 Bedroom apartment and the cleaning charge was $150. I moved out of a 3 Bedroom home and the cleaning charge was $200. $550 is way out of line.
