Review 5/19/2009
In July, 2008, I contracted Mr. Rudy Monteagut from Deco-Stone to redo my patio and pool using expensive materials totaling approximately $21,000. Originally, I was going to hire another company, but i received a nice note on my door asking why I didn't use him and another chance to bid for the job, which I ultimately did. I hired Mr. Monteagut, which I regret for the following reasons: 1. The quality of the job was very poor. Parts of the work look terrible and it's too expensive for me to have fixed right now by other contractors that have provided estimates. Deco Stone told me they would not fix the poor work, after attempting to fix it one time. (The pitch was originally set so that water would drain towards the house and then he reluctantly attempted to fix it by creating a very poor looking area.) I was told when I expressed dissatisfaction less than a week after the completion of the project, "Sue me" and he refused to come back and make repairs. He also told me I was "picky." (Note: I had mistakenly paid in full in good faith that he would honor his warranty.) 2. The workers were extremely messy. I found myself constantly cleaning up scattered messes including bottles, lunch bags filled with leftover food and paper towels. They dumped a pile of concrete on the side of my patio which is hardened. They also left my house one day with a very large load of sand behind both cars in the driveway which i had to personally shovel away waiting for him to show up and help. The pool company he contracted dumped the waste from the surface onto a large, visible area of my grass, since hardened and still remains. Pieces of pool surface were also found clogging the plumbing which they attempted to fix once. I have since been forced to pay another pool company to make repairs on the pool since I was not able to get him to have the company come back for the second time. 3. Mr. Monteagut very unprofessionally and mistakenly yelled at a friend who was helping to explain the problem he attempted to fix when it was someone else who had expressed dissatisfaction to his son the previous day. He did apologize when he realized he was wrong, but nonetheless, extremely unprofessional. 4. After mistakenly paying him a final check with ambivalence, i asked about the warranty, to which he replied, "I give a lifetime warranty. It'll take me a lifetime to come out and fix it." Although he seemed like he might have been joking.....apparently, he was serious. 5. I sent Mr. Monteagut a letter of complaint after he suggested I sue him and refused to come back and make repairs. His response was extremely unprofessional, and made comments demeaning to my profession and alma mater. He also suggested I knew nothing about contractor's work since I had sought the opinions of others. There are more complaints. I would be happy to share with anyone who is considering hiring Deco-Stone the interactions we have had, the letters that have been written and even show the sub standard work. No one should ever experience the same thing i have. Note: Mr. Monteagut also threatened that if i ever made a written complaint, that he would sue me for slander.
