I went to this company to have a growling noise diagnosed and fixed. Their first response was that my brakes needed to be done. So, I had the rotors, pads and hardware replaced. As soon as I left the lot I knew that the growling noise was not fixed. I sort of thought that the brakes were due do be done anyway, so did not make a fuss, just brought the car back and asked to have one of their mechanics take a ride with me so that he could hear exactly what I was hearing.

The mechanic said yes, he understood the problem. They took the car back but told me first that they could not figure out which rear wheel it was, even when taking a second mechanic on a test ride to try to hear which wheel was the problem. Then they said they recommended replacing both at the same time because if one was wearing out, likely the other was also wearing. Additionally, they did not have the equipment to spin up each rear wheel on the hoist so they could accurately diagnose the problem.

At the time I did not have the funds to replace both rear hub housings, so told them to go ahead with one of them. I was also quoted $190 for the hub housing as this part could only be replaced with parts from the factory. They replaced the left rear housing and when I received the bill, I noticed that the part was now $220, not the $190 initially quoted. I was also assured that they had fixed the problem.

While driving away from the place, I immediately noted that the growling noise was still there. Not only had they not diagnosed the problem correctly, they charged me more for the part than initially quoted.

About that same time I noticed that there was a problem with my radiator, so took the car to Ronnie's who advertised themselves as being radiator specialists. I asked them to diagnose the growling noise problem, they told me it was definately the right rear, that the hub assembly would have to come from the factory, (and the reason why), and replaced the right rear for $100 less than this Discount Auto place did.

I am never going back to Discount Auto again. If you do, be advised that there is nothing discount about their prices except compared to dealer prices and they are poor at diagnosing problems.

I later went back and checked my repair records (which are complete since I purchased this car new and have kept every repair receipt), and noted that the front rotors had less than 40,000 miles on them. A mechanic friend of mine said one should expect something like 80,000 miles on a set of rotors.

If you do use them, make sure you ask to see the removed parts and that they are from your car. Make sure their quotes and prices charged match.

There are much better deals around. Skip "Discount".
