Review 11/3/2008
Incident: November 2, 2008, Cashiers: Two female employees working around 6pm at Ecology Auto Parts located on Imperial HWY in Santa Fe Springs, CA Hours: Until Nov. 3 2008 open until 6PM (Summer Hours) Report: I was trying to retrieve a window motor around 5:30pm when the yard became dark, so I walked over to the cashier's dept to make sure if I could have a few more minutes to take off a window motor, they told me that it was fine, but to let security know that I would be in the yard because they closed at 6pm. I asked the employee if I can still return to pay for my item once I got the part removed, (I already spent about 45 minutes looking around the yard for the part I needed, and another 30 minutes trying to take off the motor, so I did not want to spend any more time taking off the motor only to return to the cashiers office and be denied the right to purchase the part which I had already spent so much time retrieving). She told me that it would be fine, so I went back to take off the motor. I checked my watch to make sure I still had time to make it back to the office and pay for my motor, and it was 5:55pm when I returned to the office. There was nobody attending the register, and when the two employees returned to the register, they ignored me as I waited patiently, (I understand how busy things get when closing a shift, because I was a supervisor at my university). I knew they saw me there because I knocked on the window several times, and there was even another gentleman who was either an employee or friend of the security guards who also tapped on the window, and waved at one of the employees, as she smiled back at him. I think he was signaling to her that I was waiting to pay for my item. She smiled back and acknowledged him, but still ignored me. I still waited patiently, because I didn't want to rush them. After waiting several more minutes I knocked again several times more, until the taller female employee rolled her eyes at me and told me she was closed, I was furious because I spent an hour and a half looking for and retrieving my motor, waited in front of the office for 10-15 minutes, trying to be polite, only to be treated in such a disrespectful manner. I was deeply appalled. I asked her what I was supposed to do, since I spent so much time already retrieving this part, and she told me I had to return tomorrow, the gentleman told me to put the part back, which I did, and leave, so I walked towards the pre-pulled engine area and placed my motor on one of the dollies in a well lit area in front of the office, so that they saw I wasn't going to steal the motor. The entire time the security guard and the gentleman who was standing behind me were both smirking and making inappropriate gestures at me, as this was going on, I became infuriated at everyone's behavior. How can these employees treat a customer with such utter disrespect and be so rude? I was only trying to be polite to the cashiers and to have spent an hour and a half total to retrieve this part, for them to have acted in such an inappropriate manner towards me really was disheartening. I know how businesses should operate. I have experience working with several companies and my family has owned and operated a chain of stores for over 25 years. We understand that this behavior is unacceptable. Their treatment was far too inappropriate. So I filed a claim on the Better Business Bureau's website. I will no longer do business at any ecology auto parts location, and will not recommend your yard to any of my friends, or any of the automotive mechanic shop owners that I know. There are plenty of other salvage yards in the LA area, and I am positive that anyone including myself, can get far better service at any one of their locations instead. I truly hope that those employees will be disciplined and this situation reviewed for future purposes, because if they would be capable of treating me in such a manner there is no telling what else they have done to previous customers, or when the next time they will do something worse. IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED POORLY, PLEASE BY ALL MEANS GO AND SHOP THERE, IF NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!
