We have two loans with Kia Motors Finance. Lately they've been calling us on the phone to tell us that the payments are late. The problem is, the payments aren't late (we confirm that by checking our account on the Kia Motors Finance website). The dunners they pay to make calls still continue to pursue an aggressive collection tack, pressuring you to give them your check routing information in order to make a new payment, telling you that the account "may go into collections" for as little as 2 days overdue. (Grace period is 16 days. This is 2 days overdue on the initial due date, not 2 days past grace period.)
They pursue very aggressively, making calls in the evening and on Sundays, and they tracked my wife down at her office phone number. (She's seldom at her office phone, as she's a teacher.)
We've quizzed them sufficiently to be sure that they at least have access to accurate information about our accounts, so we're reasonably sure this isn't some boiler room that's gotten our information.
So, in a nutshell, here are the problems:
* Their collections efforts are overly aggressive.
* The people pursuing collection on their behalf appear to be making collections calls based on inaccurate information about the status of payments.
* We feel this means a risk to our credit -- i.e., having loans through Kia Motors Finance poses a risk to your credit, inherently, because of their incompetence.
My recommendation: We like the cars, but we hate the financing. Finance through somebody else. We'll be refinancing at the earliest opportunity, because we don't trust them not to mess with our credit.
