When faced with making an important investment decision, I always do my due diligence. I was interested in adding precious metals to my investment portfolio when my research showed that gold had risen past $1,300 per ounce in early May, 2016. Much of my portfolio is invested in stocks and mutual funds and is vulnerable to inflation. However, I found that gold prices generally move in the opposite direction of paper assets and adding a gold IRA to my retirement portfolio would provide an insurance policy against inflation.
