This company did work on a building we purchased in 2008 for the seller in escrow. The work was to install earthquake shut off valves.
When we decided to sell the building in 2010, escrow was put on hold because a permit was never pulled on the job for the earthquake shut off valves.
I spoke to the owner Steven Brewer and asked him to take a look at his work.
He confirmed he did the work and said he was not sure if a permit was ever pulled. He said he could pull a permit if one was not pulled for us.
He said he would go by and check his work to confirm if it was done correctly or not.
He never got back to me after I and several others called him and tried to reach out to him. We had to close escrow so we had the permit pulled by a new plumber and had the city go out to check the work Plumber John did in 2008.
The city came back and said everything was done wrong and out of code and needed to be completely replaced.
I contacted Plumber John's office to let them know about the permit and if they could reimburse us for the cost of the permit. I asked them if they could do the work and fix the job they installed incorrectly for us.
I sent a Fed Ex of their original work done on the building in 2008 with the copy of the new permit we pulled that was never pulled in the first place.
I never heard back from them and they never contacted us about the permit or the work to be done.
Escrow needed to close on the sale of the building and the work on the earthquake valves needed to be done. We had the new plumber install the valves correctly and for less money than what Plumber John did 2 years earlier incorrectly.
After all work was done I went back to the owner Steven Brewer to follow up and find out why he did not call us back.
He said the work was done right and he does not do work on jobs incorrectly.
I told him the permit was never pulled and it should have been and by code it needed to be pulled. I asked him to reimburse us for the permit and the work that was done that we paid for out of pocket. I asked him as a business owner to make right a job he did and confirmed he did that was done wrong. I said we should not be paying for something we did not do and were not responsible for. He got mad at me and stated that the work was done right. He stated he was not going to pay me anything and he asked if I was threatening him or going to take him to court.
He also threatened me with stating "You want to meet in person to settle this". I told him I was just asking if he would just pay for the costs we had to pay out of pocket for work he did incorrectly and out of code. If he was not going to be an honest business owner and make whole on work he messed up then I would go about my other options for situations like this.
That was the end of it.
We are pursuing him the through the legal system.
