I just got a call today from continental. They are using new tactics in the industry. Instead of asking for money up front, they confuse you on the line and then try to get you to sign your deed and title to them. They claim they have a buyer and will call back this afternoon "after a meeting" to give it to me. They are tempting with first claiming to return all prior listing fees within 30 days and giving a type of confirmation number. Then going on to explain other parts, only if you ask questions. They try to claim that the attorney genral office in FL are closing down all the other agencies and making them pay back fees. They first act like they are fadcilitating this. Then they appear to be selling your timeshare and then give a more than valued sales price. It is even hard to rely what had occured since it did not even seem clear on the phone. When I asked questions, the man seemed to be upset and act like he was doing me a favor and really wanted to go to lunch. So, while telltale signs like upfront money are true, they are not always a constant. The scammers are adapting as well. During the conversation he called out the tell tales and claimed that he is not doing these things- not exactly, but once I sign over my timeshare, how will I pay off my mortgage? There was no clear process explained to me and I felt like it was definitely jumping into the fire. Going from loosing money and being stuck with my timeshare to loosing my timeshare and only getting back prior listing fees- maybe. My mortgage costs well over 2800 plus all I invested.
Really, the final verdict on this encounter would have to be: scam
