I have been a tutor with (and without) TutorNation for several years. Most of my jobs have been referrals from TutorNation, ALTHOUGH many clients do not contact me directly -- they sign up as a client requiring a tutor and are listed by State/City, so it has been up to me to sign into TutorNation's website and find the "tutees" in my State/City. I have an M.S. in Chemical Engineering and teach at the local community college. You would think that with my profile tutornation.com would be able to provide me with referrals. In one year I received less than six...and all were outside the 20-mile radius that I specified. Any online referrals that they sent me were not appropriate (i.e., engineering subjects that needed cross-referrals to charts and tables). I canceled my $ 120 subscription and asked for a refund. If you're considering TutorNation.com, please consider the following warning. I purchased a 425-day membership in December 2011, for $95, figuring I'd make it back in the first couple hours of tutoring. As of today, I have received ONLY two requests for tutoring, neither of which worked out. On August 1, 2012, my credit card was charged another $95, without authorization or receipt. I had registered as a tutor until December this year but was charged a 1-year renewal of membership last July. That's a good 5 months early! I disputed the charge with my bank but my bank could not do anything since this company is now claiming it was a legitimate transaction. The first time I called them I got an answer and the guy who received it acknowledged a mistake and promised me that they will refund it within 3 days. Worst site for tutoring ever. The fees required to register as a tutor here are atrocious and you get absolutely nothing in return. If a client cannot review your tutoring services then you have no way of building up a positive profile that make potential clients want to select you. You're just stuck in a sea of names. I had the misfortune of being duped by this website (Tutornation), as did another reviewer on this site. I also filled out a free profile and received e-mails with several interested parents desperate for a tutor. After paying the 3-month fee, I sent several notes back and did not hear anything from the parents. I hired one of TutorNation tutor to help me understand some of the concepts that I am having difficulties in an Electrical Engineering course. Specifically, electrical transformers and power systems. This tutor has some very impressive credentials. Two PhD's and have taught in several colleges. An outfit called "Tutor Nation" purports to connect qualified tutors with qualified customers.....for a fee of $85.00. But when attempting to contact people on the paid "list" no emails are acknowledged and calls are not picked up or returned.
