I used US Search to run a basic background check on a person today who I know has a history of bankruptcy, tax liens and other negative records, but the search came up blank. I know that these things occurred 4 or more years ago, and I had detailed information about the person's full name, date of birth, city of residence, etc. In my opinion, I paid $20.90 to US Search to get scammed. I purchased three background checks from US Search Inc by means of their online website. All three background checks were on people with known criminal backgrounds. The first was sketchy but sufficient for my needs. The second came back with a clean record which was a false report. The third came back with a clean record which was a false report. I have been very dissatisfied with US Search. I thought I was paying for one single search for a 1.95 and then found out I had signed up for a monthly subscription after 3 months. I did not receive any clear communication regarding the subscription from their billing department. This company is deceitful to say the least!!!!!! Do not pay for a background check with them. They WILL undoubtedly charged you for something you did not selected nor wanted. They will do this without your knowledge and consent and will continue to charge your credit card monthly. I did a background check on myself for $24.95. I was under the impression it was a one time fee. Later I am looking at my bank account and notice an automatic monthly fee coming out of my account. This company practices bait and switch tactics to get your money. They do it legally but unethically by leading you on and making you believe what is not true. And quickly gets your money and I haven't been able to contact them as of yet to get my money back and expect I will have a real hassle in my efforts. First off, I am not a customer of this site...I am a victim. This company sells personal information of every person they can find in the world - 300 million and growing they state. They do not offer a "permanent" way to remove your profile, so you must constantly check their site and go through the removal process. First, On Dec. 13, 2010 I did not get the search result that I paid for. Second, the company billed me for that search and billed an additional amount to my credit card of $19.95 for a membership that I did not subscribe to. Do not use this company, I used the service to search for one person and then I find out that I am being charged $19.95 per month for continued use of this service even though I did not subscribe to it when i signed up. I am sure somewhere hidden in the "fine print" it states that they will charge you at a monthly rate even though when you sign up to use it to find one person, it does not state that this will become a monthly subscription rate. When I first used this company to get a address and telephone number, I either got the info sought, ie; tel.#, or address. They refunded the money I gave for a telephone number search that didn't produce, but this was a few years ago. Do not use this site. I signed up to get marriage information on myself from 15 years prior. Once I signed up for the advanced package I got no marriage information what so ever. USSearch.com practices deception by tricking customers into services not asked for or wanted. Their site is intentionally confusing. I have called them 3 times to cancel "services" that I did not intentionally order, do not need, and do not want. I am shocked that the BBB gives them a favorable rating. When I asked questions of cust service about how updated the UsSearch data was, I got very confusing responses. I went ahead anyway but only got very out of date addresses for someone I had to serve a subpoena for a small claims case. Later I went to another company www.thesearchgods.com and found my debtor at a new address. Cost was a bit more but at least the information was accurate. I needed to look up the owner of a phone number and had the exact type of experience that others on here describe. After entering the phone number I was told that the name and location of the phone number owner was "available in report." Then after paying the fee for the report, the site said that no results were found but that they would search another database and get back to me in 48 hours. CAUTION This is a bait and switch company. Their customer service rep, Karen, admitted that it is very hard to determine that you are signing up for a monthly subsrciption charge when you do a search. They then will not refund any money, even after admitting they are duping people into the subscription service. I called USSearch.com to do a background check on a shady person. I gave the operator the name and area. All I asked for was the street name to see if my information was correct with his so I wouldn't get the incorrect person. He said "I'm here to make money" which I do agree it is a business, but he shouldn't be saying that to the customer. I don't see how this company ever deserved an A rating! They are so bogus! I requested a search on a phone number that was constantly showing up on my sons phone from another town. Company "guaranteed" delivery within 48 hours. A WEEK later, I did receive a report that said "Non-Working Number". However, just yesterday, 4 calls was received from that number!
