I am an investment banker and requested CNBC to be on one of televisions. I was told three times by the Operations Manager over the course of two months that they would have it on. Never happened. La Fitness is a SCAM! There sales techniques are really sleazy. i signed up for 3 years thats $750, they promised 5 free personal trainer sessions. The salesman Armando, sent us over to the manager(who is now the manager at la fitness on wilshire) for the free personal trainings. Horrible gym. Not only is the equipment second rate, but they also purposely scam you with their memberships. The sales person told me I could just sign up for 2 months since I was traveling for work and would only be in the area for 2 months, but failed to tell me that it was actually a month by month membership (2 month membership doesn't even exist) and i had to actually cancel it myself when I wanted to stop paying. After I signed up for LA Fitness in SW Arlington, they gave me my "free" training session. Reuben Cordero, training manager, at that time, with their high pressure, tactics, talked me into a contract with approx. $300 down, and $160 a month. I signed up for personal training services and was told that my simple goals were easily achievable within a year, only to have trainers wander off to chat, not have a plan before I arrived, new trainers every few weeks so that I have to start over again and again, etc. Then, when I complain to the corporate level to see about getting refunds for my time and money, I'm told that as long as there is a trainer at all, whether we work on anything or not, then LA Fitness feels it has met its cont... I froze my membership and agreed to pay $10.73 per month. In August 2011, I decided to cancel the membership entirely after joining a different gym. I go to LA Fitness in Laveen AZ. Great zumba class and instructors. Kudos to them. Some of the sales persons and front desk persons could benefit from a customer service training. Yes, understand that they need to "police" customers but there are ways of saying things. They should treat everyone as their customers. HORRENDOUS!! Northridge, CA LA fitness location on 18670 Devonshire St has to be THE WORST LA fitness club I have ever attended. I have been a member of LA Fitness since October, 2010. I frequent the Huntingdon Valley location. The gym is dirty, especially the restrooms and the pool area, and the equipment is outdated (please see attached pictures). The vents are covered with dust and there are water stains on the ceiling tiles. This is definitely a health hazard. Their practices for signing up training sessions are misleading to say the least. I met with a trainer who signed me up for what he said would only be for 3 months of sessions and after that I could cancel with no penalty. BEWARE. If your debit card expires, they will call 5 times in 4 hours to the phone number you supplied, if it is a relative, they won't quit if you are asleep or at work, they will state they will keep calling and will purposefully keep calling at least hourly till they get their monthly $26.00. My experience is one of typical corporate non-responsiveness. While the on-site employee told me my account would no longer be billed for personal training sessions, I continue to be billed over $300 a month. A while ago, after their failure to stop billing for my daughter's membership, and after I had been billed for months after she left California, they grudgingly gave me some three day passes for her to use. Very disappointed-even after trying to get out of our contract from Pure Fitness who was bought out by LA Fitness. They will not refund us our $95.00 to get out of contract and never go back. They closed down the 3 gyms I used to go to and now the La Fitnesses in AZ are way too overcrowded. February 1 I mailed a cancellation letter to the address in my pro results training contract. I had fulfilled my contractual obligations and also decided to quit the gym entirely as I no longer had time to work out. I joined LA Fitness Oct 2010. I signed up for the personal training but when I went home and read the contract it was very different from what I was told I was signing. LA Fitness Lake Forest has the worst customer service of any organization ever. I locked my keys in my car with my barcode so I asked to be admitted with my phone number instead. This guy was standing in front of the weights while I was trying to re-rack my 65lb dumbbells. Firstly, it sickens me that this business has an A+ rating. What bureaucratic b.s. made that happen? LA Fitness is a hate machine. Their cancellation policy seems deliberately designed to allow them to make "mistakes" in processing cancellations. The staff at the North Miami location are practicing fraud. The manager, Shannon, and another employee whom I won't identify, told us a series of lies, wouldn't honor the offers from the website, pitched us pretty hard on more expensive memberships and wouldn't let us workout unless we paid for one even though we had a guest pass in our name for their club from the website. I have had a HORRIBLE experience with my membership. I went there to tour the facility then unfortunately got "roped" into a membership by their gym manager. BIG MISTAKE. La Fitness is not a truthful organization. They told me MONTHS ago that my personal training would end on 11/30/2010. In order that they don't extend the contract past that date, you need to give them 30 days notice of your wish to cancel. On 10/28/2010 I gave them that notice (it was 32 days). I have been to this specific LA Fitness in Torrance, CA right by the Del Amo Mall. I have to say, I am seriously disappointed in their lack of service and assistance in just about all aspects. Like everyone else writing here, I had major problems trying to cancel my membership. I suggest that WHEN you are going to cancel your membership mail it RETURN RECEIPT REQUESTED!! I actually give LA Fitness zero stars. I have cancelled my membership with LA fitness 3 times in 3 separate ways, in person, by phone and by mail. They continue to TRY to charge my card but because it is a prepaid card with no money on it the transaction is denied. Every time it is denied, I am charge $5 for insufficient funds. Due to the economy, my business has evaporated. I had to cut back on my bills for now and tried numerous times to quit my membership at LA Fitness without success. They just won't let you quit and continue to charge your card. The only thing I can figure is that they intentionally lose your request and charge your card once again. Like the other 24 reviewers here, I too had an awful experience trying to get my account cancelled. I fully believed that I had taken the appropriate steps to cancel my account and then was charged repeatedly after what I thought was the end date of my membership. When I called the location to try and rectify the situation they were unhelpful and unwilling to even identify themselves by first and last name. I would not recommend this club to anyone.
