I lucked out when A-1 was the closest certified smog check certified mechanic to my house because that was how I decided to go to there. I just moved from New York and bought my first car (used, a 2000 Jetta) so when it failed the smog check I was really lost. Luckily Tony at A-1 walked me through what to do and how to get the state and Volkswagon, to help me out as much as they can. I had never been to Tony at A1 Automotive before. In fact, I didn't know much about the company. But after failing my smog test, I need to find someone quick. Luck was on my side that I found Tony at A1 Automotive. He was polite, professional and explained everything that he needed to do. He called when he said he would and he had the car ready when he said he would. In fact, a little bit earlier. His prices are reasonable and he is very patient and helpful. Tony and his crew at A1 Automotive did an excellent job repairing my car. It was a complex problem and I found that I was given an extremely fair estimate and Tony was very communicative throughout the entire process, explaining everything from the parts I would need to the exact cost of each one. Tony is the best. He has been my only mechanic for about ten years. He prices fairly, he keeps his word - and if he says it will be ready at a certain time - then it is - unless there is a further complication. It is the real world after all. My car (Toyota Avalon XL 2003 - which I bought from him) zips along because of his good care. Please bring your business to him - you will be better because of it. Read More »

You cannot find a better mechanic than Tony and his crew! Honest, integrous, fair, efficient, trustworthy, astute - these superlatives only begin to describe the service you will find at A1. I know when I take my car in it will be checked carefully. I will be fully informed as to what is critical, and what will be needed later. I have never written a review in my life, but felt I needed to tell people about the excellent service I have consistently received at A1 Automotive Services. I have been a customer for over 15 years. I used to live a few blocks away. I now live 15 miles away, within walking distance of 4 or 5 reputable mechanics, but still take my car to Tony, an honest mechanic who appreciates and respects his customers. A-1 Automotive is the kind of car shop I have been hoping to find for a long time. They give detailed estimates for labor and parts (in my case, based on a phone call alone), explain why the work is being done, have the car ready when they say they will, explain what they did and go over the parts and repair with me before delivering the car, and never try to steamroll me into having more work done than the car really needs (like many shops I've been to). I've been coming to Tony Hashem's A1 Automotive Services shop almost 10 years since I moved to Silver Lake. They set the bar for trustworthy service for me. I don't remember being this loyal to one repair shop in all the places I've lived. Tony tells it like it is and always gives me options so I'm the one making the judgment for the type of repair that I want. I even forego taking my Range Rover to specialists. A1 is the kind of place where they'd rather keep a loyal customer base than make a quick buck by selling you things you don't need or overcharging you for parts. I've been going there for several years now and have always had excellent service at a reasonable price. I don't know anything about cars, so I'm at the mercy of my mechanic.
