The initial contract amount is just a starting point. You will be asked to pay more for your pavers, pool tile, and anything else he can come up with along the way. My pool has never been completed. Permits have expired. What he built me had/has over 15 leaks, has cracked or fallen pieces of tile, sunken pavers, non-working water features, and lights that hang from the side of the pool by wires.
