My Magic Jack subscription expired on 12/23/2012. When I try to renew the number, the company tells me my account is under review and to wait for an email from them. It is now 1/13/13. I have tried live chat and also speaking with their billing department at least 8 times. Each time they tell me the same thing, but they can't or won't tell me why my account is under review or how long I'll have to wait for resolution. In the mean time, we're without a home phone. This MagicJack is a terrific product. I own the MJ and MJPlus and am more than satisfied. I have taken it to Germany, Austria, Prague (one trip) and Panama, and people didnt even know I was out of town. The only slight problem I have is when I use it with my computer while laying in bed. I would highly recommend NOT paying for this device as it does not work! When I received the Magic Jack only a few months ago, it started out working on and off, it would drop calls and minutes would go by where I couldn't hear the person I was speaking to. 6-26-12 I have used the original MagicJack w/my computer for 5 yrs. and was very satisfied w/service. My calls were mostly clear & unlimited to US & Canada. If you buy magic jack the 30 day free period starts the day you place the order and not the day you activate it. So make sure your happy with it real quick when you get it. I bought a couple of magic jacks a couple of years ago. Decided to use one for a call center, I got a number (347-757-5841), but one day, as I was doing telemarketing with it; my magic jack did the magic and blocked all incoming and outgoing calls. This is not worth the money. I have had one problem after another and I have had it for approximately 3 months. While I have been with MagicJack coming up on a year, it took me almost that long to get a PolyCom device to work with this product. FINALLY after we got it working, I was willing today to extend my contract 5 years. When logging into my site it had I could extend 5 years for 59.95 or 1 year at 19.95. Enrolled for 5-year plan. Magic Jack now regularly drops calls, has poor line quality, now USB device is not recognized by Windows 7. Spent hours on chat window with worthless, disrespectful techs. I have been using this for over a year and have had absolutely no problems with this device. The one time I had to contact the online chat was when I had questions about changing my number to a Canadian number. Again, no issues whatsoever. We now use the Magicjack more than our regular land line, and when we move back to Canada from the US, we will NOT be getting a regular landline. I wished I would have checked into this further, as I as a consumer also feel that it is a big rip off. They say pick your own number, but they don't tell you the charge for that. Misleading advertising about the simplicity of device. It simply does not work as advertised. Customer service is horrible and is all done through "chats" where the customer service rep directs you to "fix" your computer by changing port settings and doing other questionable items to the core functionality of your computer. First of all I have had this service for one year. When I first hooked it up, I used it as a extra line in my home. The service was bad. Almost always the telephone conversations were garbled. And always there were noises on the phone when I was talking. Lots of missed calls coming in that went to voice mail. I bought my MJ from Radio Shack early 2009. I have been using it daily for calls to Europe. It works great on my Intel iMac. After 30 minutes, I have to call again, but that is a small problem. I purchased one of these and to be honest, I dont use it that often. There have been a few times in which this has been absolutely clutch though. One time, I was in an airplane that had WiFi. I was able to connect to the internet with my computer and use the magic jack to connect to someone in preparation of a meeting we were going into later that day. Magic Jack service is less than satisfactory. I signed up for the 2 year service agreement and honestly cant ever use it. Each and every time I am on the phone I either drop the call, or the conversation is so choppy I have to hang up. TERRIBLE! The connection is easy and convienient however, the service is terrible. I have to agree with the other complainers - After just about two months of problem free service the device started to fail, causing my clients to tell me that my voice was cutting out, then they couldn't hear me at all. This Magicjjack is worthless. It works about 25% of the time, drops calls, garbles speech, and seldom works. I got this service several months ago and gave up the phone number I have had since 1979. This service has been a joke. Every few days something goes wrong. The phone disconnects in the middle of a conversation, the audio quality is so bad that the person on the other end of the line can't hear, no dial tone--and so on. Bought 2 magicJack devices and the only thing magic about them is my money is gone and the device doesn't work. The devices continually freeze up my computer to the point I have to unplug them to get computer function back. I have used MagicJack for almost a year. It is a unique VoIP service because it reduces the myriad of choices associated with most VoIP services down to one simple, (supposedly) plug-and-play device. It is also extremely affordable at about $2 per month. But, those are also MagicJack's shortcomings. I would not recommend this product. After a month of use which is the trial period; it did an upgrade and after that point the product did not work correctly. Each day i would have to contact the help desk who had me performing the same tasks each time and wasting about an hour or more of my time.
