I bought an engine on 10/1/2024 and paid the $720.00 core deposit which you're supposed to get refunded when your engine is returned. They sent a damaged engine after my mechanics had prepped to install it and when they noticed the damage, I had to file a claim, take pics and schedule a return of the damaged engine they sent. ATTN! THIS IS A LKQ SUBSIDIARY! This should be all you need to know! The gearhead folks will point out their long tradition of remanufacturing engines, but it does not matter a bit, because WHEN you have a problem, you will be dealing with LKQ the Corporate Behemoth for your warranty issues! My first Gearhead engine failed at just 6k miles, then the lower intake manifold gasket failed after after about 40k miles because the gasket they included was cheap plastic! I purchased a "rebuilt" 350 for my Chevy. I put it in and sent them the old one that had a cracked head. This motor worked for about 1,000 miles and then coolant shot everywhere. I had my mechanic take a look at it and he tore the heads off and found a crack in the head that gear head tried to tap in a sleeve to stop the crack from leaking. Bought a gearhead engine, turns out Gearhead is ATK engines. It has problems day 1. Major vibration. We spend hundred of dollars and many hours ensuring it was an engine issue and not a accessory issue. They will not send a new engine unless you pull the old one, ship it to them and let them determine it is defective. If they say it isn't they will charge you for the process. I had a very positive experience with this company. I was redirected to them through ATK engines looking for a reman 22-RE for my 4runner. I didn't get pressured or hassled the first time I called just to get a quote. When I decided to make the purchase, service guy was very friendly and answered all questions happily.
