I paid $35 to look up one person I was looking for. Worthless information. Got an address out of it only, which was also available for free on Google. For that price I was suppose to be able to use it for 3 months but only played around to look up myself and an old friend from my past on that day I bought. . Went with Spokeo for a persons search. Didn't even find what I was looking for. They were not specific enough. Had a name but didn't offer anything else. Google is better!!! I signed up for the 6 month period at $5.95 a month and got hit for $35.70. Which messed up my account. I have things budgeted to the max and all they could say was they bill it all out so there's not an interruption in service. I don't care about an interruption, if it's not paid, I don't get to use the service, simple as that. They make it look like a really good deal and it's a rip off. I have been trying to get removed from spokeo.I fill out all the info and what do they do they put all the info I wanted off my site and put it on peek you. The information is inaccurate and unreliable. The username search function doesn't work either. Google will give you more up to date info with no credit card needed. All you will get is an apology. Lesson Learned.....the HARD way. Always read "reviews" on something prior to signing up for a subscription. I was using Spokeo to confirm address info for our class of 475 alumni (for an upcoming class reunion), and I noticed that some "hits" had e-mail addresses. Great! They came to me, not I to them and the offer was a LIFETIME PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP in exchange for over two thousand of my contacts They have since, without notice, changed me to "Free Membership" breaking their promise to me and rendering my usage to next to useless. I was trying to collect e-mail data for a small business start-up. I had much of the information, but I just needed e-mail addresses. I found the data in the Spokeo search engine to be too sparse and inaccurate to be useful in finding people you've lost contact with. For example, when I look up myself I should not have an email address that has been out of service for more than 20 years instead of my current one which has existed continuously for over 15 years. Spokeo is HORRIBLE. Shame on BBB for giving them a grade A when clearly the public is not happy. Just because they respond to their complaints with useless info doesn't make them deserving of a grade A. Spoleo is so ridiculous and inaccurate that it's actually hilarious. I agree that #1 it's an invasion of privacy, even if it's public records why are you making it easier for stalkers & creeps to see this information? For those of you who are trying to remove your information from Spokeo and are getting the "you're using the same IP"- or "you're using the same e-mail address"-type messages, here are some options for you. I am a very private person. My phone number and address is not posted in the phone book. I am on the do not call list. I make sure that on my facebook page I do not post my D.O.B., address, or personal email address. I've also found my personal information collected and displayed at this site, and attempted to follow their procedure to remove information since they "care about data privacy." In reality, they actively prevent you from removing all of your information from the site by limiting the number of times you can use a single email, and even if you have multiple emails the number of times you can do so from your computer. This site should be illegal. It posts the personal information of citizens without permission, including information on minors. First off, I am not a customer of this site...I am a victim. This company sells personal information of every person they can find in the world - 300 million and growing they state. They do not offer a "permanent" way to remove your profile, so you must constantly check their site and go through the removal process, which limits the number of times you can use an email or IP address. Regardless of what the CEO, or the representatives of Spokeo, reply to their information is incorrect, period. The say they do not publish any information for anyone under the age of 18 but that is also not true. My daughter lived at another address when she was 17 and that information was listed on their website. First of all, I did not find their information to be very accurate or much more than I could find elsewhere on the web. This is why I did not want to continue my subscription. Furthermore, their billing policy is outrageous. I signed up for a free trial with an advertised monthly fee. I forgot to call and cancel with the trial period. I have tried to remove my listing from my home computer, I got the email information, clicked on the link and it took me back to the privacy page. I punched in all the information again and clicked remove listing... it then told me to check my email. Ok, I get that we can have our personal information removed. However, there is a bigger problem. The problem that your company accessed my personal information contained in my email folders. Like others here, I am very disturbed by the volume of data they collect. And Spokeo, before you respond with your boilerplate "only public sources" speech, I'm well aware that this data is available in public sources, but to collect it (without your help) would require a fair amount of effort, and let's face it, most bad guys are lazy. I did not ask to be listed on Spokeo, and when I entered my first and only request to be removed from their listing I got a message that I should try again tomorrow because they limit the number of requests to be unlisted. This company does not answer the phone. Period. They falsely advertise a one-time fee then argue that their recurring charges were clearly explained. They refuse to credit erroneous bills. Have had a very frustrating experience with this company. I do a lot of people searches for business so I thought it might be worth it to use a paid service from spokeo for more detailed info.
