For me, this program is almost exactly like half the price of the program that my school offers, so once I figured out how much my school’s program cost, I just started Googling everything, and for this program, for the travel and study, it just seemed like the best option, just because it is so convenient.The program, Next Step China, deals with the whole hassle of booking the travel flights during the travel portion and registering you for school, so it took off a lot of that hassle. I thought the NSC tutoring was fantastic. I think it’s one of the things I like best about this place. If there is one word I can use to categorize it, its flexibility. For me, flexibility is very important. Maybe something can come up or maybe you don’t want to do a class that day and you just want to go out and go for a walk. When finding a company like Next Step China, cost and value were important to me. Also, the entire experience from beginning to the end. Next Step China thought everything through, so between my insurance, mobile phone, and accommodations, everything is taken care of and I don’t have to worry about any of that on my own. The service NSC provided was excellent. From picking me up at the airport, to taking care of the Chinese government paper works, to providing a cell phone, transportation, and local orientation etc. Because of NSC doing all this, I could focus on my Chinese studies. Accommodations were very nice. I wanted to study Chinese in China because I feel like programs in the United States really don’t give me the opportunities that a program in China might. Coming over here, we’re able to practice Chinese with a tutor or at school, for two, three, four hours a day, then afterwards, we can go, out in the streets, and you can use it first hand. I definitely would recommend the Next Step China programs. All of my friends that I’ve met here that are here with Next Step China are all in different programs. I was in the internship program and everybody else is either in a tutoring program, learning at BLCU; Beijing Language and Culture University, or are teaching English, and all of them are having the time of their lives. My expectations were exceeded. When I signed up for NSC I didn’t expect I would make friends who would make this an incredible experience. From day one, I felt welcome. I traveled alone and didn’t know anyone in the city. When I arrived at the airport my program advisor, Amy, greeted me with a big smile. I am a high student in Arlington, Virginia. My family and I were looking for a program that was inexpensive and reliable/trustworthy. We chose NSC because it was the cheapest option and offered the most freedom (like not having every day completely planned out) and was the right time range and in Beijing. When I first signed up for NSC, I interacted with Holly and I found her very helpful. Sicilia was the person I asked questions to, and she was really helpful always. I think Mandarin is going to be a big language in a couple of years. The language is going to be spoken practically everywhere like English. A third language is good for my son. We found NextStepChina and it’s also connected to several good universities in China. The service was fantastic. I was looking for an efficient, but comfortable overall learning experience and that is what I received. They did a great job of fixing apartment issues if they ever came up. I think the specific goal of coming here was mainly because I’ve never traveled to Asia. To me, it was just a foreign country… I didn’t know other than what I had heard about it, and having the language as a background for two years, I figured I was a little more prepared, so I wanted to go and just travel. I wanted to learn Mandarin as efficiently as possible, so flexibility in teaching methods and schedule was a key point that I was looking for. I could always pop into the Next Step China office after tutoring to ask any questions I had or disturb the staff with a conversation about anything, they were pleasant to be around with, all of the time. It was important for my girls to come here because I think learning Chinese in Thailand does not really enforce her to communicate as much as we would like. I think the accommodations at Next Step China were considered good especially the location , which is very close to BLCU. I live in the UK, London. I had studied Chinese for about 4 years at a Chinese school. Then I stopped because I had too much work to do. I’ve never lived by myself, as in, without my parents. There’s no curfew, there’s no person checking up on you all the time, there’s no strict schedule. And so, I think it’s been a good experience. I was looking for a program that could really help out my Chinese as much as possible, NSC seemed very helpful and they seemed like they were looking out for me, so it was a program that I was attracted to. I came to Beijing so I’d be forced to use that and only that. There’s not much English around here. The signs don’t have English at all. I thought the service from Next Step China was good. I’m a student at Amherst College in Massachusetts and I did NSC’s Intensive tutoring program. I already knew how to speak Mandarin so I went to China with the goal of learning to read and write it. Originally I came to Beijing for an internship, but then figured out that I'd also like to learn some Chinese. In the summer of 2009, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to study Mandarin in China for two weeks, specifically Beijing.
