Demand Studios is completely legit and awesome. I've been working for them for a little over a year and I make a steady paycheck that I receive twice a week. Although it is vastly different than a print publication, I find that those who can't adjust to this line of work are used to academic or newspaper level article writing -- which is quite labor intensive. Demand Studios is a content mill. It is the equivalent of a writers sweatshop. I was let go for what I was told was downsizing. However my involuntary termination was after I had a dispute with a copy editor. They continued to tell me they were not hiring when I would reapply after seeing an ad for employees. I've been with DMS and similar sites for two years. Demand Media Studios, like any company, need improvement. There are internal struggles and quality control issues...the work is hard and the pay is low. If you didn't make it in at all, then your samples weren't written to style. As stated by other reviews, this company is not to be trusted. When first hired you are wooed with the ease and quality of the Demand Media system. They paint a picture of a perfect and nurturing environment where writers not only grow professionally, but earn a living. The reality is far from this false front. I think Demand Studios, Demand Media and eHow to be a work from home scam as previously stated by another reviewer. I researched and wrote a 500 word article (early draft was actually 1,000 words) and it took me 7 hours. I thought I was being paid $15.00 per hour until the assignment was approved. I have only been freelancing for a short while and the only other reference point I had was where I was paid $200 per 500 words article. Frankly the notion of working for $15.00 per hour was hard... I've worked for Demand Studios for over a year. It's been a positive experience overall, and I would have recommended them as an employer until recently. Over the past weeks, Demand Studios has decreased the offered pay rate for certain types of articles, meaning I have to write more articles to earn the same income. Well folks, I gave Demand Media Studios a try. I wrote my first 2 articles, only for them to have to be rewritten and then ultimately rejected because of bad sourcing, and the wrong factual information for the topic. Then, when I wrote my 3rd article, i had to make minor corrections as far as my sourcing, and I was glad to know I got paid for that article! I have written for this company for almost a year. I have found the experience to be rather nice overall. There are some technical problems of course, and at times the teams may struggle with consistency, but it is a good, professional experience for anyone who is interested. Beware of this company. I worked for this company for 5 months from Feb 2010-July 2010 after writing 46 articles for them making them a lot of money. It's up to the copy editors to approve your articles. And honestly some of them are just plain mean and some just don't know how to edit an article. The company is a bit unorganized.
