I was just a girl standing in front of a moving company...asking it to move me...
Okay... maybe I wasn't physically standing in front of them...I was on the phone... but me and Julia Robert were both searching for the same thing...some TLC and kindness. (Notting Hill reference for those of you who are confused.) Anyway, this review
was a long time coming. I had planned to sit down and write this once the last of my boxes were unpacked, but since I'm still jumping over boxes to get into bed at night, and moving garbage bags filled with random clothing to get into the shower every morning,I
figured I should just bite the bullet. Being an ex-New Yorker who has moved 9 times in 13 years from Upper West Side sublets to East Village 5 story walk-ups and any other place I could hang my hat...and shoes...(yes, shoes...you gotta stay creative with the
closet space in NYC), I have seen my share of crazies and charlatans who call themselves movers, and to whom you entrust all your worldly possessions, minus your prom dress and the stack of Howard Jones and Morrissey records you left in your mother's basement.
Anyway, suffice it to say I've thrown down with movers and won, so I know my stuff when it comes to getting my crap, I mean TREASURES, from one place to another. HANDS DOWN...this company is one of the best movers I have ever used. Henry (who I believe owns
the operation) was AhMAAAHHzing! (that's for you Happy Endings watchers.) He was incredibly professional and PATIENT. Due to life getting in the way, and then a tree root getting in the way (fell over it and hurt my shoulder), and then who knows what else...I
had to reschedule my move on 3 separate occasions! Still, Henry was unbelievably helpful and understanding and made sure to let me know my needs were paramount, and he was there to make sure I had a safe and stress-free move. As for the movers, they showed
up on time and came with the extra large truck that I had asked for (it's called RECOVERING hoarder...it takes time people!!) They took special care when they backed up the humongous truck into my tiny driveway through brick columns and didn't break a thing.
They were polite, efficient and patient. Even when I was adding more boxes of junk...I mean... VERY VALUABLE keepsakes I could NEVER part with... to the pile, they worked quickly and without any attitude. They took good care of my things and packed the truck
conscientiously and skillfully. When we arrived at the new place, they were even more efficient in unloading, and took great care not to nick or scratch anything including the newly renovated hardwood floors. Most impressively, they moved, what is easily the
nicest thing I've ever owned... an enormous Mission style armoire (it's worth more than the car I'm driving...if that armoire had 4 wheels and a steering column I would be driving that instead.) from two rooms and three walls until we all decided that it had
found it's rightful home. Not a sigh, not an eye roll, just asked me where I wanted it, and then asked again, and again...you get the picture... They were hard working and humble and seemed to appreciate their well-earned tip. As far as the price was concerned,
it was VERY reasonable and fair. There were no hidden costs... no $9 rolls of tape crap, no extra padding fees, no extra travel fees, no double time if the Lakers were playing a home game... okay, I made the last one up. They also provided two or maybe three
wardrobe boxes for me to use, so I wouldn't have to wear the same clothes for three days while I went looking for my packed clothes. Oh, and using the coupon that I bought was absolutely no hassle. Listen, I'm not a corporate shill or a family friend. I'm
an ex-hoarder, but I'm also just a girl who was standing in front of a moving company asking them to move her (...if you haven't seen NOTTING HILL...go rent it...it was just before Julia Roberts became un-watchable ... you lazy folks can youtube the clip)
and then go call Hugh... I mean HENRY ;-), and get your happily ever after!
