Review 4/16/2008
I signed up for FDRS.org in June of 2007. I enrolled a total of $52,866 into the program. They also made it a point to steer clear of any card associated with a credit union or related to a business. I found this odd but went along with it. I also found it odd that after I signed up with them, I started getting mail from the Fairhaven Group talking about bankruptcy. The Federal Debt Relief System's "service fee" over the length of time would have been $15,860. My first payment was due that next month at the end of July ($1,610). I had spoken to Dan Lyle and he seemed convincing and so I paid my first fee. Now at the time I was totally current with all of my accounts. No 30 day lates at all (this is clearly evident on my credit report). Dan told me to quit paying all of the accounts enrolled and that they would be contacting my creditors to negotiate a deal. I was told not to worry about my credit report because they clean up after the program. By mid-August, I started getting letters and calls from my creditors. I told them I was working with FDRS and they ALL stated that 1.) They do not deal with them, 2.) The company has never contacted them. I paid my first payment and nothing was done. They had not contacted my creditors as they said they would. I stopped making payments after July. By this time, I had decided to bail out of FDRS but the interest rate on my credit cards had already jumped up because I was then 60 days late and I could no longer afford to pay them. I sent a letter on 1 Oct stating that I no longer wanted to be in their program. When I called to find out what was needed in the letter to get out of their program, the receptionist rudely hung up on me. Customer service obviously was not their strong suit. I honestly believe they are a bunch of crooks. They feed off of the desperation of others to fuel their game and fill their pockets. I've gone on other sites and have seen that quite a few people have or are having the same issues with them. All is all, my credit was ruined, I had payments I could no longer afford, and I am now about to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy because of this mess. All I wanted was a way to lessen the amount I owed and pay that off over time but I was given nothing but empty promises. I'm still trying to come up with the rest of the money to pay the attorney for my bankruptcy. Getting my refund back from them would help greatly and will at least prove to me they have scruples. I have documentation of everything.
