Review 4/17/2010
On 1/15/2010 I had placed a large order with Furniture Corner located at 3500 45th Street West Palm Beach, Fl 33407 with Pete, a salesman. There were 2 Invoices made. Invoice#008666 had the items purchased for my son’s room. A Desk, File Cabinet, Return, Futon Frame and an Inner Spring Mattress. The total sale for this Invoice was $1,010.32 which was paid in full with my Visa Debit. The second Invoice#008667 had 1 Sofa Table, 1 Dining Room Table Base, 1 48” Round Glass and 4 Chairs. The total sale for this invoice was $804.67 which was paid in full with my Visa Debit card as well. When the items on Invoice#008666 were delivered, there was a crack on the arm of the Futon Frame. Ron, the store manager was at my home helping with the delivery and informed me that he would replace the arm on the same day when they deliver the dining room set. I was told by Ron that the Dining Room Set would be delivered on 2/6/10. I was never told a time but was told that his driver would call me before he would arrive. I waited home all day. I called numerous times throughout that day and left numerous messages asking to speak with Ron. When there were no return call made to me and it was late afternoon, I called the store again and this time I was able to reach Ron. I was told then that the Dining Room would NOT be delivered until 2/10/10. You can’t imagine how upset I was. Waiting all day at home, no calls from ANYONE from Furniture Corner and no calls from the driver.
On 2/11/10 the items on Invoice#008667 were finally delivered at 7:45PM. There were 2 men bringing in these items from the truck. One of the men immediately started on replacing the arm on the Futon, while the other man was bringing in the items into my apartment. I then noticed that the Chairs were incorrect. I asked that they do NOT bring in these chairs into my apartment and was told that they could not due to the fact that they did not want to be responsible. They refused to take them and suggested that I go to the store first thing the next day. They put the Couch table together and then they were trying to put the table base together and they were having a difficult time. There was a piece of the table base that could not be placed in its position. But they still insisted that there was no problem and placed the glass on top of the base anyway. I signed the slip and made a copy (see attached) which states that they delivered wrong items. Then they left. I had noticed a chip on one of the legs (8 in total) and that the glass was not sitting properly on the base. My son and a friend of ours took the glass off and took apart the base and noticed that one of the pieces was deformed and that was why the glass was not sitting properly on the base.
The next day on 2/12/10 my son and I brought 4 pieces of the base to show Ron the problem and to see what Ron was going to do with this issue. NOTE: I had sent an email and faxed a copy to Furniture Corner of my concerns and to protect myself from any wrong doing (see attached). I walked into the store and immediately looked for the Catalogue that I ordered from then asked Pete to get Ron. I found the picture of my Dining Room and noticed that the wrong item number was written on my invoice for the chairs. When Ron arrived I showed him the deformed part of the base. My son said that the base should have been put together before it was delivered that way they would have noticed the problems. Ron was very upset with this comment by the way. Then I showed him that the wrong item number was written on my invoice He then said that I signed the invoice and that the correct item that was written on my invoice was delivered. I felt that he was being very rude and that it was not my responsibility to do their job with making sure the order was written up correctly. Then Ron excused himself and while he was gone I told Pete that I understand human error but the right thing to do now is either give me a refund or deliver a new table base and the correct chairs. Ron came back with a new invoice#008830 (see attached) which clearly stated that I would get a new base and the correct chairs at NO CHARGE within 2 to 3 weeks. He had me sign this one as well. I asked Ron to pick up the wrong items from my home. He then said that I can keep them and use them and that when they deliver the correct items he would pick them up. I informed him then that I did not want to be responsible for them and would prefer they come get it and offered to bring them myself, Ron said not to worry and to wait.
On 2/26/10 I called the store to find out when to expect delivery. Note: 2 weeks have passed. Pete had answered the phone and said he did not know and went to get Ron. Ron got on the phone and told me then that my items were on back order and that he had no control. I asked him why did he not call me to let me know and told him that he DOES have control with proper customer service and was very angry by this point in time. I asked him for the owners name and number. I then called Jonathan Henry (the owner) numerous times and of course I had to leave messages.
That following Monday, 3/1/10, I wrote to the Better Business Bureau (see copy attached) and also called Channel 5 news. I had called the store numerous times and no one called me back so I went to the store with my son. Pete was their but not Ron. I was so upset and asked Pete to give me the Manufacturers phone number for Coastal. I then called Jonathan Henry (Owner) from their phone and he answered. I first asked him why he would not return my calls. No response. I then informed him of the problem. He said he would call me back after he spoke with Ron. I waited at the store. He called back and said that Ron told him that I changed my mind regarding the chairs and wanted another? I told him Ron was lying and told him the truth. He then said that had he have been in the office that day (2/12/10) he would not have agreed to the exchange. He was arrogant and rude. I then asked him for some kind of resolution. He refused and I hung up. Using their phone I called Coastal and spoke to Carla. She informed me that my items were delivered and sitting at the Margate warehouse. She gave me shipping’s number and that I should speak to Sabrina at ext 5639. I then hung up, looked at Pete, informed him of what I was told and asked him why this call was NOT made by Ron or himself and that they should have done this for me and why are they not delivering my furniture. Pete saw how upset I was and apologized for making the mistake of writing the wrong item on my invoice and that I was not the only person going through this with Ron.
On 3/5/10 I went back to the store with my son to find out what was going on. I had told my son to record the entire conversation. Ron was there and asked me to go to his office. Angela was there as well. They informed me that they received my complaint from the Better Business bureau. They told me that since I canceled my order, they would not give me a refund nor make any delivery. I informed them that I was forced to do so and that I still wanted my furniture. Ron then said that it was still on back order. I informed him that this was not true and asked him to call Coastal, just like I had. He then said that he did not have to do anything I say. Then Angela demanded that we leave and said to take them to court. While I was leaving I informed them that they were recorded and that I was going to the police to file a Fraud Report. I went to the Police right after leaving the store to file the report (copy of report attached).
It is now 3/13/10. No calls from Furniture Corner regarding when they will pick up the wrong items from my home so I called them and spoke with Angela. She said they would come sometime next week.
On April 3, 2010 at my own expense I returned the incorrect furniture to Furniture Corner and they refused a FULL refund. They were wanting to charge me a Re-stocking fee. Thismust be a joke. THERE IS NO WAY I WILL ACCEPT LESS THEN MY FULL REFUND. My Bank is still working on this for me. If they can not resolve this for me I will take this company to small claims court. If anyone wants to do this with me please let me know.
