I was a customer of General Air Conditioning from Sep 2006 to July 2009. I bought an maintenance contract every year. My air conditioner went down last Saturday and I called General Air Consitioning for corrective maintenance. It was about 115 degrees fahrenheit outside. I was told that unless I paid $150, I would have to wait until Monday for service. Their on-line contract states that there is 24-7 maintenance service. It does not state that one must pay $150 for service if one's AC decides to break on the weekend. I thought that's why I had a maintenance contract. The General representative agreed that it was not clear in their on line advertisement. I cancelled my contract and asked them to return the money I had paid for the contract. I found out later that it was SOCAL Edison that had turned off the air conditioning.

General returned the money I had requested.

I do not regret my decision to cancel my contract.

As air conditioner maintenance professionals, they should have known about the SOCAL Edison program and informed loyal customers. They must have received an extraordinary number of calls. They should be more forthright about the afterhours maintenance charge. They were very nonchalant about letting a loyal customer cancel so they must have too much business to be worried about one customer.
