Review 1/21/2009
GOF low-balled the competition to win my business. Once I signed a contract and gave them a deposit, their service and any resemblance of an effort to help me relocate stopped. It was a nightmare to deal with GOF that still continues like the Groundhog Day. Specifically, I contracted GOF to ship my household effects from France back to the USA. I was to leave France for good on 06/30. Yet, GOF still did not arrange a local mover for me as of 06/22. I had to live with stress that could kill a person, wondering what I am going to do with my possessions. Finally, GOF found a local agent to pick up my goods in the evening of 06/23, 4 days before the last possible date for the pickup. While my goods were in transit, GOF kept sending me low-res versions of customs forms that I had to complete several times because their customs broker rejected the forms as unreadable. They finally referred me to the US customs web site, because they (shipping experts!) did not have the basic forms. Next, they billed me $1000 over the contract amount of $5,200 for extra demurrage and storage, because “ the customs took 5 extra days to clear the shipment.” I paid. Recently, I contacted the port and found out that my shipment took 2 days to clear customs. GOF simply took a hands-off approach and let my shipment sit in storage, running-up port storage charges of $200 per day. They knew that they would simply pass the charges on to me. GOF demanded that I pay the $1000 extra charge "immediately." I paid the same day via billpay. The next day they said that because the payment was not by wire, they would hold the shipment in storage at an extra cost of $500. I was trying to reason, but the GOF’s management disappeared. They would not take my calls. I had to pay in exchange for a promise that there would be no more charges. Three months later, they had the nerve to come back to me and say that I owe them $200 more for storage. The promise? “Sorry, cannot do it.” In sum, GOF makes money by low-balling, under-delivering and adding imaginary charges. E.g., GOF also attempted to charge me $1,200 for packing materials that I did not use. I disputed the charge. They said it was in error. However, online posts re: GOF show that GOF keeps making the same mistake. I complained to this BBB. GOF countered my complaint by trying to discredit me. They came up with a charge against me that was a clear lie. A Google search of "Global Ocean Freight" will return multiple posts of people who were scammed and badly mistreated by GOF. Use them at your own peril!
