Called this company Great American Plumbing to check a leak at the juncture of my inbound pvc water main and my copper house piping. There was a leak on a pressurized line caused by stress crack in pvc pipe. Inquired about hourly rate before the visit and fellow said he would quote the job when he viewed the job. I drove 30 miles from work to meet fellow at my house and view the job which consisted of replacing approx 6" of pvc and installing two 3/4" pvc couplings an recementing the pipes. Joe quoted me 385$ for this job and when I was shocked at the price I asked him how much he expects to make an hr for such a smalljob. He said it doesn't work that way, the cost is for the job and he has a lot of overhead, truck , shop , travel time, etc. I offered him $ 200 for a job that I knew would take 30-40 minutes. A very fair rate. He came down to $ 345 and I agreed as did not have time to locate another plumber and go through this again. Joe advised that it will take some time to do the job and set the cement and repressurize. etc.
He was sitting in his truck smoking a cigar waiting for the cement to set. I paid him $ 345 and returned to my place of employ. after he received the check, i guess the job was done as he drove off. Total time at job site 1 hr. total working time approx 20 minutes, total cost of supplies PVC PIPE AND couplings + cement ( $ 10.00 max)
So very disatisfied with the nefarious pricing scheme and preying on the public. My advice is do not respond to the biggest ad in the yellow pages as I am an example of how the ad was paid. Any other victims of this kind of predatory pricing?
