NOT a gimmick, but I thought so at first

About 6 months ago my mother got a letter from Heirfinders Research Associates. They claimed they had located "dormant" assets in her name, some oil royalties from Texas we had NEVER heard of. Now, my mom is no dope, but I was still concerned that if she called these guys she would get sweet-talked into handing out a social security number or bank account number or something. So I called expecting to speak with a deposed prince of Nigeria or something.
Lo and behold, they were not trying to defraud us, they were totally up-front about the source of the funds, and they didn't ask for any money from us until they successfully retrieved my mom's funds (and their fee was only 10%, so even after we paid them, she still had over 5500 bucks to her name). Turns out the oil royalties were in her name and her grandpa's name from YEARS ago...he's long dead and basically no one in her family knew or told her about it, so it was just sitting around until Heirfinders found it and got a hold of her in Los Angeles.
When the check finally came from the financial agency holding the funds (months later - my only gripe), my mom and I called Heirfinders to personally thank them for their efforts. The big chief over there, Michael Haney, asked that I write a review supporting his company and I gladly obliged, so here I am.
I'll admit, these letters from Heirfinders seem "too good to be true" or downright shady, but give them a call; they are legit and they have been doing this for 15 or 20 years and they are very good at what they do. Polite, professional staff and of course, at the end of the day, money in your pocket.
