Review 5/22/2011
STAY AWAY FROM THIS FIRM!! I was contacted by derek thomas after filling out a form for assistance on line the last week of february 2011. He seemed so genuine and honest.Saying HCLC did his loan modification (which has to be untrue as HCLC is not licensed do modifications according to the attorney. An explanation of how it all works is further down on this post). He promised a principle, payment, and interest rate reduction. we had already received our notice of default so we did not have a lot of time. I am an educated woman..I did all my research on this company before we hired them, even going as far as to get Derek to verify a few things through email that weren't specifically stated on the second part of their contract so i had it in writing. Also, the money back guarantee didn't hurt. Everything looked good. I paid them their first installment but never paid the second or third because as soon as i could not verify with the bank what Derek was telling me i became very suspicious. Derek is VERY convincing and actually talked me out of firing them the first time. After another week of being unable to confirm with my bank that there was a third party actually negotiating with them and because the bank had NEVER SPOKEN TO AN ATTORNEY on our behalf, we finally terminated our contract with them and are now are now going through a short sale. I called Brian Linnekins to get my money back. After a lot of "talking" on the phone he finally agreed to refund 750 of my 1000.00 in "the interest of customer service". You see Derek Thomas doesn't actually work for HCLC. He works for another "modification" company that collects paperwork and leads, at least thats what i was told. Anyway the short of it is..they send 2 contracts the first is a retainer for services that lists the attorney, this is actually for a forensic audit. The second is for the modification to be done by a company called united processing which until recently I'm sure wasn't actually a company but a call center somewhere. Then when it started to rain down on then they sent the paperwork over to an actual company called united processing in orange county I actually spoke to the OC processing company the day HCLC's client paperwork was sent to then. A gentleman there called me when he saw my file because he remembered me from phone calls prior when i was trying to figure this whole HCLC mess out and thought it interesting. The contracts are misleading and worded in a manner to make it seem like the attorney is negotiating with your bank but that is not the case. Bottom line...its a sham...the washington attorney general has ordered HCLC to cease and desist http://dfi.wa.gov/CS%20Orders/C-11-0633-11-TD01.pdf http://www.bizjournals.com/seattle/morning_call/2011/04/state-shuts-down-home-credit-law-center.html If there are people out there still waiting for their results from these people stop now and find actual representation from an attorney you can see and actually meet with. As I said I am a smart and pretty savvy woman but desparation can make you see and believe things you might otherwise not.
