My credit card was charged $400 AFTER I was denied a re-fi loan, BEFORE an appraisal of my house was ever scheduled. It is basic business ethical practice that one is charged only AFTER a service is provided. The erroneous transaction tied up my cash flow for the appraisal that a different bank did schedule. For an entire week I received ZERO response to my numerous anguished emails and voicemails from my Lending Tree agent or his supervisor, much less an apology for the mistake. Finally upon lodging a complaint with the Lending Tree regional customer service folks, my agent emailed me one sentence saying that I'd have to wait 4 - 7 more days to get access to my money (no apology). I have to wonder if that charge was in fact a mistake, or rather is the standard procedure which exploits applicants' divulging their credit card info.
