I purchased Life Alert for my grandmother a few years ago. The service she received was good. However, the billing practices are not. Once a year the annual payment is automatically deducted from my account. This year's deduction came in May and I canceled her Life Alert subscription in September. I requested a refund of the remaining balance at that time. A month passed and I had not received the refund so I called them again. I found out that one of the customer service reps I had spoken to previously marked the account "No Refund Required". The lady I was speaking to said that I had not requested a refund the last time I spoke to a customer service rep. She did assure me that I would receive my refund in the next 7-10 business days ($350). I was told that unless a customer specifically requests a refund of their balance Life Alert will not automatically issue the refund. They primarily interact with elderly customers who may not have the presence of mind to: 1) realize a refund it due to them, 2) request the refund or 3) follow up if the refund is not issued.
