In My Opinion,
"THE WAY TRAINING IN MARTIAL ARTS SHOULD BE"

If you're looking for the same old type of karate experience then THE PIT MALIBU is most likely not the place for you. I've trained at other schools including one in Malibu and without trying to bashing, I can honestly say that the program at THE PIT MALIBU is on a completely different level. Kumu Rick has taken all of the effective fighting and conditioning techniques that have been well established and recognized for their effectiveness in real world situations and he has combined all of this with his obviously very sincere desire to teach.

What is so unique about the atmosphere at THE PIT MALIBU is the level of sincerity and real-genuine interest in being there that everyone has. I don’t know all of his secrets for staying fired up and hungry after all his years training but Kumu Rick has not lost his desire to continue to be a student himself and after 30 years in the martial arts, he’s still hungry to learn and grow and that honest desire is infectious & spreads to all the students.

For some, including me, I was intimidated in hearing about how “serious” they were at THE PIT MALIBU so when I first walked in the school, I was nervous but as soon as I met the first students showing up for class and got a chance to talk with Kumu Rick, his wife and there young son Sage, I realized this school is more than just a school, it’s a family or as they call it, an “Ohana”(Hawaiian for family).

I must say that before moving, I learned more there in my few lessons than I did in months of training elsewhere and I did this while meeting some great, like-minded people. I felt like I established some lifelong relationships that can only add to the already plentiful benefits that THE PIT MALIBU has to offer. Isn’t this what the martial arts is all about? Discipline, focus, strength, respect, honor - all of that is part of what they're doing there but unlike my other experience here in Malibu, THE PIT MALIBU has a warm, family feeling while at the same time, you know the training you’re getting in is the real thing.

For a person who wants to train or wants their kids to train, I don’t know what more a person could want? Be sure to check out their website and get in there for a free class and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. I know that I wish I was still living in Malibu. I haven't been able to find a school that comes close.
