Review 7/12/2011
I started playing one of Nexon's games, MapleStory, in 2008. Over the years, I have noticed that Nexon, as a company, has been deteriorating in terms of how they take care of their games, especially MapleStory. MapleStory is well known for having a multitude of hacks lying around for people to pick up and use. During the earlier days, it was hard to find a decent place to just relax and train, considering that hackers ruined entire maps. Nowadays, people worry about getting disconnected by other players, or having their maps crashed and being forced to log off as a result. Nexon's response to these hacks have been lackluster. The No Delay hack literally took months for Nexon to fix. The DC Hack is still lying around and is used commonly in the Free Markets. Currently, MapleStory is infested with map crashers, making the game virtually unplayable. In terms of glitches, Maple tends to get full of them. We always have players abusing the glitches, and even then, Nexon takes a few months or so to get them fixed. The Enhancement Scroll glitch took awhile to fix, and during that times, hundreds of thousands of players abused said glitch. As far as their customer service goes, you can forget about that. Typically, having Nexon reply to a ticket you send in would take awhile, a month or so. Sure, people can say "But it's x amount of players sending in x amount of tickets to a small group of people!", you can't help but feel troubled that a ticket takes this long to be responded to. What's even more disturbing is that the replies they send back are generated automatically. I usually feel betrayed when a major issue is sent in via ticket, only to be responded by a computer. It also annoys we when a major issue comes up, and Nexon gives us no heed to such an issue, and only sends a representative to give us a small update. I distinctly remember one weekend, where many players were locked out during a weekend. Nexon gave us virtually NO update regarding the matter, and it took them roughly two or so days to fix the issue. I was fuming at the thought that Nexon did nothing about the situation for a few days. The only time they did do something that time was when a Game master was hacked. Having something like that happen is unacceptable. The company doesn't bother to connect with their players at all, either. During the earlier days of Maple, GM's would always pull out event for player's to participate in, such as jump quests and mini games. Nowadays, they don't do that anymore. It makes it feel like they are distancing themselves from the players. They only thing they do seem to care about is the amount of money they rake in. I know that as a company, the number one thing that they need is money. However, they could at least let the customers and players know that they care about us. It is worth noting that Nexon is quite money hungry. In the past, Nexon has promised that they would not allow NX users to actually gain benefits that normal, non NX users won't. This ended up happening, however. A few years ago, the Haunted House event during Halloween was only available if you bought certain NX clothes. Nowadays, the Dual Blade and Evan classes require the usage of NX in order to have all of their skills. It also bothers. me that they pay more attention into fixing the Cash Shop and transaction problems then the rest of the game. Most promises that Nexon tells us they will fulfill are empty. I remember one time where Nexon posted a sort of apology letter, saying that they will fulfill their duties better. It hasn't happened yet. The game is worse off now then back then when they posted said letter. Before I end this review, I would like to speak my mind about something. It has been bothering me that the game is becoming less and less of the proper MMO that it was awhile back, and becoming more of a single player game. MapleStory is mainly a social game to be honest, and I have no problem with that. Party Quests helped me connect with people, and I found a few great friends along the way. However, these recent patches have rendered these party quests practically useless. With the new characters that I have made, I only find myself doing one party quest, and that is that. Sure, we have the whole LHC thing, but regardless. I find myself playing alone more and more, with most of my friends already quitting the game, probably due to boredom/lack of progress/lack of interesting things. You may agree or disagree with what I had to say here, I just wanted to speak my mind about this. To be honest, I love the game. I loved it back in 2008, and I still love it now. I just wish that Nexon put more effort into making themselves into a more competent, actually respectable company.
